Things are going pretty well so far now that little Emilee is here. The first night when she woke up screaming each hour I was pretty sure we would not make it, but the past two nights she has been sleeping for two 4 hr. stretches and I think I will survive!
Harrison has had a little trouble since becoming a big brother, there have been several temper tantrums, Emilee has been smacked once, some "baby talk" and today there was mention of getting "bobby" out of his bear, but we are just trying to be patient and make sure he is getting some time and attention from mommy and daddy. I know it is just a phase and he will get through it and be the sweet little boy we know he is once again. He is very good to Emilee a lot of the time too. He went to Grandma and Pappy's house one afternoon and the first thing he asked when he walked in the door that evening was "Where is Emilee?" He loves to hold her and sing to her and tell her "it's ok" when she is crying. All those sweet things make me confident he will be a great brother to his little sister.
A few things I had forgotten about after having a newborn:
1. A shower feels like a HUGE accomplishment
2. At 2 o'clock in the afternoon I ask myself if I have brushed my teeth that day
3. Lack of sleep makes you very forgetful
4. Nursing takes up A LOT of time! Not that I mind, I love it, but it is not as relaxing when you are playing a game of Memory with a 3 year old or have cars running up and down your legs for roads or you are trying to read books, turn pages and keep the baby "latched" on! I think it will also be a lot easier in another week or so when it is pain free too!
5. Holding a newborn in your arms is one of the greatest feelings in the world!
6. Newborn kisses are wonderful - even if they are really just searching for food :)
7. How many diapers you change in one day! It makes me SO thankful Harrison is already potty trained!
8. How long you can just sit and stare and a little bitty person that is doing nothing!
9. I wasn't sure how I would be able to "love" another child as much as I love Harrison, but you do - it's like I have two hearts now!
10. Nursing allows you to eat like a horse (literally) and still lose weight! I love that part, even though the weight is taking longer to come off this time - I know it eventually will.
11. Speaking of weight - the other thing I had forgotten about having a newborn is that I also have nothing to wear!
12. The good definitely outweighs all of the bad and overall we feel so blessed and are so happy with the two beautiful children God has given us!
