Independence

This week Harrison has really been showing me how independent he would like to be. He has decided that he should always feed himself his yo baby. If I take the spoon he immediately whips his head to the left and grunts to let me know he would like to do it himself. We are working on a better way for him to tell me that, but that is what he does for now.

When he gets to the bottom of the yogurt he will stick his entire hand in to get all that he can. Then he waves his hand back and forth and says "hi... hi..." (I think he must like how it feels when his hand and fingers stick together!). Then he places all his fingers in his mouth and sucks off as much yogurt as he can. This can keep him busy for up to 15 min. which is the perfect time for me to get my makeup on.

Usually I take his shirt off because as you can imagine this can get pretty messy, but today I forgot. The picture does not really do justice to the mess I had to clean up. There is yogurt all over his mouth, on the side of forhead, his right sleeve is completly covered in yogurt as well as his bib (which when I pull it off over his head smears yogurt all in his hair and forehead) and of course the tray is a mess as well.

I am very thankful for his independence, but am starting to get a little nervous about that attitude! I will definitely have my work cut out for me for the next 17 years!

A Fun Weekend!

Last weekend David, Julie, Max and Jake came to visit and to check on their house down here. The boys had so much fun together. We can't wait to live closer again so they can play more often. Here are some pictures...

Babies in the snow

Here are some pictures of Ava and Harrison in the snow in PA. Neither one of them was out for very long because it was too cold for them. I think the ones with Harrison and Ava laying in the snow are funny. It looks like we just walked up and found babies in the snow!

We're Back!

We just got back from visiting Mike's family in Pennsylvania last night. We had a great time and got to see lots of their relatives. I will tell more about the trip and post some pictures too later. Right now Harrison needs to go to the park. He has been very patient in the car or plane over the past two days and he needs some running time today!

Are You Dead Yet?

This is something I received at Bible Study a few weeks ago and keep forgetting to post. It has really made me do some thinking so I thought I would share. I am thankful when I get things like this because it really makes me evaluate my life and see SO many areas that I need help to work on and change. The more I learn about Jesus the more awesome He becomes to me! A sinless life seems impossible and amazing to me, I have a lot to live up to!


When your wishes are crossed, your advice disregarded, and your opinions ridiculed, and yet you refuse to let anger rise in your heart or try to defend yourself, you are dying to self.

When you lovingly and patiently stand face to face with folly and spiritual insensitivity, and endure it as Jesus did, you have died to self.

When you are content with any food, money, clothing, climate, society, solitude, or interruption by the will of God, you have died to self.

When you never care to refer to yourself in conversation, record your own good works, or desire commendation from others, you are dying to self.

When you can honestly rejoice with a brother who has prospered and has his needs met, and never feel any envy though your needs are greater and still unmet, you have practiced dying to self.

When you can receive correction and reproof from one of less stature than yourself, and humbly admit he's right with no resentment or rebellion in your heart, you have died to self.

Are you dead yet?

Hat

Mom made Harrison a really cute hat for Christmas, however he does not like wearing hats unless they are tied on and he can't get them off. I am trying to get him to like to wear it but am still unsuccessful. If he only knew how cute he looked in it he might be willing to work with me! Anyway, I got some pictures today just so everyone could see how cute the hat was.

Our Little Parrot

Mike and I have been calling Harrison our little parrot lately because he is really trying to imitate lots of things he sees us doing. He has tried to make faces like ours for a while now, but now he tries to move his feet around like he's dancing when we dance to his music and he has been saying a lot of the same things we say too. His latest "saying" is - "ummm...". Now I know he got that from me because I say it all the time, as is "umm, what should we eat" or "umm, what should you wear today". I am mainly thinking to myself when I do it and now I just seem to say everything I am thinking too; for Harrison's sake I guess. This weekend I really noticed how often I said it though because each time I did my little parrot would repeat me!

This morning Harrison was standing in front of his closet and said "ophe" which means open. His toys are in his closet and he wanted to play, so I opened the doors and he went over and stood right in front of them all and said "UMMM...". It was like he was thinking,"What should I play with now?" It was so cute! I am amazed at how quickly he is becoming a little boy.

Hungry

After playing outside today, Harrison decided to hang on the refrigerator to let me know he was hungry and needed a "nac" (snack)!

Mike and Harrison dressed alike last Sunday. I thought they looked so handsome I should take a picture. Harrison was too busy watching the dogs to smile for the camera though!

2 New Harrisaur Stories

Last night John and Amanda and Ava came up to watch the Super Bowl with us. We were getting into the game and talking and laughing about the comercials and Harrison was playing and running up and down the hallway downstairs. He came into the room and pulled his fingers out of his mouth and said "yummm...". I looked at him and was thinking there is no food out where he can reach it what does he think is yum? Then as he started to run back down the hall I realized the bathroom door was open and it was the TOLIET WATER that was yum (I know this is very gross!). I jumped up and ran to the door to see him with his hand down in the toliet ready for another lick! I quickly ran to him and stopped him and then washed his hands and mouth and then put him in the bathtub (it was time for him to go to bed anyway).
Thankfully the toliet was flushed (although it really doesn't make it that much better!). Just another reminder to me of how carefully I must watch my little angel :) All bathroom doors have been kept closed since then!!!

Story number 2

Today as I was making lunch for little Harrison and me. I went to the fridge and took out some leftovers to heat up. Harrison loves to stand inside the fridge and get his juice cup and drink it there when the fridge is open and I thought "Why not, I will put this back in as soon as I get out enough to warm up." Well, I made a very bad choice! Before I had finished dishing out our lunch I was drenched from behind with a gallon of sweet tea (Mike had just made it the day before and there was hardly any gone ~ also I tell you it was sweet tea so you can imagine the sticky floor). Poor little Harrison was drenched from head to toe, the refrigerator had a nice puddle of tea in the bottom and all over all the drawers and shelves the floor was covered and Harrison was screaming! It was quite an ordeal. So, I mopped up most of it, changed our clothes and we sat down to lunch. Normally after lunch Harrison lays down and I get to have some time to do something I want to do, but not today. Today I cleaned out the fridge, mopped the floor so my feet would stop sticking and washed down all the cabinets and dishwasher that were also splashed! Oh what fun ~ at least my kitchen is really clean now.

So, as we enter the 2 year old stage I am seeing that it is going to be quite exciting! Harrison is really becoming a little person and has a big personality! He is already getting frustrated when he doesn't get his way (he started this when he was 9 months though) or if we don't understand what he wants. He likes to run back and forth in front of me and then throw himself on the floor and cry! It is quite a scene ~ I can't wait for it to happen in Wal-Mart (ha ha). Anyway, please pray for me to have patience with Harrison and to teach him how to better respond to disapointments!
