Sweet Talk
Yesterday I asked Harrison what he was thankful for and he said: "Grammy Noyes". I thought this was really sweet since it has been quite a while since he has seen Grammy!
Grammy, I know you read this and I hope this will make your day today!
Tonight Harrison and I were driving over to my parents house to take some of the food I had for Thanksgiving. Here is a little coversation we had on our way:
Harrison: "What are we doing tomorrow?"
Me: "We are eating Thanksgiving lunch with Uncle John, Aunt Jessie, Gracie and Gi-Gi"
Harrison: "Gracie is so 'mall!"
Me: "Yes she is. Emilee is going to be small like that when she is born too."
Harrison: "Her is soooo cute"
Me: "She is a very cute little baby"
Harrison: "She is tiny just like a little cow."
Me: laughing "Yes she is Harrison"
Gracie: When you read this one day, please note that Harrison calling you a little cow is a great compliment because a cow is his favorite animal and he LOVES them (and you) very much!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

Captain Harrison
Harrison really enjoys a cartoon called Cailou. It comes on when he is taking a nap so we have a couple of the videos that he enjoys watching. On that he really enjoys is about Cailou pretending to be on a ship.
This morning when I was getting ready, Harrison broke his little party blower from his cousin Luke's birthday. I asked him to bring it to me so I could see if I could fix it.
He responded "Aye, Aye Captain Mommy!"
I said "Thank you Captain Harrison" .
When I realized that it was broken beyond repair I told him so and he said: "Awwww ladies!" (which is interpreted - "Arrrr... matey's")
He is so silly!!

The older he gets...
the more I realize that PARENTING IS HARD!
Since Harrison has turned 3 I have really been met with a challenge when it comes to discipline! Don't get me wrong, Harrison is a wonderful child, full of life and happy, but he is also very strong willed and determined and that makes for a lot to handle some days (especially when you are 8 months pregnant!). This past week I have come upon 2 things I that have encouraged and challenged me so much and I decided to share them with you.
Please note that after reading these everything has not become perfect, but the Lord has used them this week to show me how to keep Harrison, life and disciplining in perspective. I have them both printed off and plan to "refer" back to them when having a rough day!
A Child's Ten Commandments to Parents
by Dr. Kevin Leman
1. My hands are small; please don't expect perfection whenever I make a bed, draw a picture or throw a ball. My legs are short; please slow down so that I can keep up with you.
2. My eyes have not seen the world as yours have; please let me explore safely. Don't restrict me unnecessarily.
3. Housework will always be there. I'm only little for a short time-please take time to explain things to me about this wonderful world, and do so willingly.
4. My feelings are tender; please be sensitive to my needs. Don't nag me all day long. (You wouldn't want to be nagged for your inquisitiveness.) Treat me as you would like to be treated.
5. I am a special gift from GOD: please treasure me as God intended you to do, holding me accountable for my actions, giving me guidelines to live by and disciplining me in a loving manner.
6. I need your encouragement to grow. Please go easy on the criticism: remember, you can criticize the things I do without criticizing me.
7. Please give me the freedom to make decisions concerning myself. Permit me to fail, so that I can learn from my mistakes. Then someday I'll be prepared to make the kinds of decisions life requires of me.
8. Please don't do things over for me. Somehow that makes me feel that my efforts didn't quite measure up to your expectations. I know it's hard, but please don't try to compare me with my sister or my brother.
9. Please don't be afraid to leave for a weekend together. Kids need vacations from parents. Just as parents need vacations from kids. Besides, it's a great way to show us kids that your marriage is very special.
10. Please take me to Sunday school and church regularly, setting a good example for me to follow. I enjoy learning more about God.

I Don't Want to Raise Successful Children
Lysa TerKeurst
"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it."
Proverbs 22:6 (NIV)
I don't want to raise successful children.
That's a shocking thing to read, and a shocking thing for a mother to type.
So, let me clarify.
I used to define success according to my child's report card. Good grades and academic achievement would surely equal a good child with great potential in this world. But then several of my children wound up being average students with average grades. Though we carted them off to tutors and spent many a late night at the kitchen table helping them, they remained average. And I remained concerned and frustrated. One report card day I found myself facedown in the fibers of my carpet crying and wondering, "Where have I gone wrong as a mom?"I dug into Scriptures. I begged God for wisdom and discernment. I prayed for God's perspective with each of my kids.
Finally, one day it dawned on me - what if I simply chose to embrace the natural bent of each of my kids as God's way to protect them and keep them on the path toward His best plans for their lives? What if my A student needs academic success to prepare her for God's plans while my average to below-average student needs to be steered away from a more academic future? What if my sports star kid needs that athletic excellence for his future assignments by God, but my benchwarmer kid is being protected from getting off course by her lack in this area? And that's when it finally dawned on me. My job isn't to push success for my kids. My job as a parent is to recognize the unique way God created each child and point them to Jesus at every turn along their journey toward adulthood.
Yes, I wan t my kids to learn and thrive and grow up educated, but it's not a flaw in me or them if they don't have straight A report cards and trophy cases full of sports medals.Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it" (NIV). I am challenged to ponder these words, "… in the way he should go." Are we training our kids that the "way he should go" is to chase worldly achievement or to chase God? Whatever they learn to chase as a child, they will chase as adults. Therefore, we must be challenged to honestly assess the way we are pointing them to go.

5 more weeks!
I had a check-up today and everything went really well. Emilee is head down ready to make an appearance in just 5 short weeks! I will start going to the dr. every week from now until then to make sure she is growing and moving the way she needs to be. The Dr. assured me that someone would be at the hospital to deliever her even if it is Christmas Eve or Chrismas Day. He said they won't induce me (which is fine) unless I go a week past my due date. I still have a lot to do from now until then, but we are getting very excited about her being here whether we are ready or not!

Thank you all for your continued prayers for Emilee, Harrison, Mike and me! We appreciate them all!
Emilee loves to get the hiccups and it makes me feel a little crazy. I can't stand to feel the same thing in the same place over and over and over. If Mike rubs my hand, arm, back, foot, etc. in the same spot over and over it makes me want to jump out of my skin - I know it is weird, but it is just the way I am. So, you can imagine how these hiccups are affecting me! I want to jump around and make her move or reach in there and move her myself!
My breathing is a lot shorter these days and I want to sit and rest whenever I can. Getting up and down, especially from the bed, is getting challenging, but I know as soon as we meet her it will make it all worth it!
I only have 2 Christmas presents left to buy and a few stocking gifts to wrap but other than that everything is bought AND wrapped so I am excited about that!
I don't enjoy seeing myself right now, but know several of you probably would, so here is a picture from today - 35 weeks.
Thank you all for your continued prayers for Emilee, Harrison, Mike and me! We appreciate them all!

Leaves, leaves, leaves and more leaves!
I am pretty sure I mentioned this last year, but we (Mike) has spent so much time doing this again this year, I feel it is worth blogging about once again. LEAVES - don't get me wrong, we love the trees, but it is insane how many leaves are in our yard! Two weekends ago Mike and his brother Mark spent several hours picking up all the leaves in our yard and one weekend later it had to be done all over again, are there were just as many leaves again. This time Mike did it all by himself (I'm not much help this year) and it took him about 6 hrs! We have a lot of leaves. The yard looked great Saturday afternoon, but by that evening there were leaves everywhere again! We probably have 2 more big pick-up days and then hopefully all the leaves will be off the trees. Here are a few pictures of what I'm talking about.
Mike with one of his many loads of leaves that he carried up to the street. At least we have free leaf pick-up!

Skinny jeans
I need to say that I DO NOT get skinny maternity jeans! I have picked up 2 pair, on accident, and taken them to the dressing room only to find out that my legs won't even fit into them.
I am VERY confused! Are pregnant women TRYING to make their stomachs look bigger or are the skinny jeans supposed to give the illusion that you are skinny?
Anybody got any ideas on this?
Don't worry, you won't see this pregnant lady in any skinny jeans :) And as Mike so lovingly pointed out to me "honey, there is just no hiding that torpedo!" I just don't think "torpedo" and skinny jeans go together!
***He meant that in a good way - as in I've gained "most" of my weight in the front. I can't help but think about a torpedo now everytime my tummy bumps into something!

He's growing up too fast!
I always like to go in and check on Harrison after he falls asleep for his naps and at night time. Here is what I found this week - sleeping like a little man!
For those of you who know me well, and those of you who don't you can ask my parents, I wanted to drive from a very early age. I remember riding in my dad's lap when I was too small to touch the pedals, driving the riding lawn mover when I was too young to drive the car, rushing through dinners so I could drive the mini van around my grandmother's house before I had my license and then finally getting a job at Subway for the sole purpose of being able to buy my own car.
Well..... I think I have a little boy following closely in my footsteps! He LOVES to "drive" when we get to our neighborhood, he spends LOTS of time driving his power wheels jeep around our house and tonight we had a little conversation that went a little something like this:
Harrison: "When I get big I'm going to drive."
Me: "Oh yeah"
Harrison: "Yeah, I'm going to put the key in and drive you to Moe's!"
Me: "Wow, that will be a lot of fun!"
Harrison: "And daddy can come too."
When we are sitting in the car he also likes to tell Mike and I where we will sit in the car when he is driving (and we are always in the back seat!).
Hopefully that day will not come too fast and I am PRAYING he will drive safely when it does!

Halloween 2009
We had a fun Halloween with family and friends this year! First we went to mom and dad's for lunch, then we went to a friends house in Piedmont where they close off the road in the neighborhood so it is safe for the kids to walk around. It was a fun time and we have WAY too much candy in our house right now! Hope everyone else had fun trick-or-treating too!

Daddy and Harrison trick-or-treating in the rain - thankfully it never poured while we were out!
Harrison the cow and Gracie the ladybug!
Grammie got Harrison and Gracie to take a nap together while the mommies got time to talk!
Some of Harrison's buddies - Will the dragon, Harrison the cow, Max the spider, Kate the ladybug, Jake the bumble bee, Durkin the firefighter and Brooklynn the cat! They were all so precious!
